WELCOME TO

Mahurangi Wastebusters
Picture
Our Wellsford site in Rustybrook Road is open as normal
Mahurangi Wastebusters is focused on reducing, repairing, reusing and recycling as much as possible for the benefit of our people and our environment.

We're based in north Rodney, Auckland with refuse and recycling centres at 55 Lawrie Road, Snells Beach and 141 Rustybrook Road, Wellsford.

We provide rubbish and green waste disposal for residential and small business customers. We also accept scrap metal and other materials that can be re-manufactured or re-purposed sustainably.  We have small shops at both locations where you can buy pre-loved goods at bargain prices ('Mahu Mall' at Lawrie Rd Community Recycling Centre is closed until stage 2 of redevelopments are complete).

We offer zero waste education and support waste minimisation activities across the region.

Hazardous waste, clean or hard fill and vehicles over four tonnes are not permitted.

Our targets

Our plan is to help the community achieve the following landfill diversion targets:
  • 50% in 2020
  • 65% in 2021
  • rising to 70% by 2022
We will be tracking and reporting our progress using a proven product tracker tool that will measure the flow of waste material through our sites.

In September 2019 after just three months of operation, we passed our first annual target. By the end of our first financial year, we had diverted the equivalent of 377, 20-foot shipping containers of waste from landfill.
"As a group of fiercely passionate climate-action advocates, our tour of Mahurangi Wastebusters really set the tone for our collective purpose going forward and further fueled the fire that had already been ignited. We want to thank the incredible staff at Mahurangi Wastebusters for their commitment in protecting our planet and inspiring us all to do the same."
